EVS VOLUNTEER AT L’ORMA
L’Orma has been hosting a young, enthusiastic volunteer from Poland since October who participates in the European Voluntary Service which is financed by the European Union.

Here is her experience with working in the summer camp organized by L’Orma.Volunteering at summer camp
During the last week of July, I volunteered at the summer camp with kids in Milan. During summer camp children do a lot of activities which aim on their physical and mental development. Those activities are based on usage of non-formal learning and sport. It was a very interesting experience as the kids were from 4 to 12 years old so quite a mixed group. I was observing coaches preparing games that all of the kids could take part in and be entertained, what was not the easiest task concerning the age gap between children. The coaches had amazing attitude towards the kids and the children simply adored them. I could learn lots of new games and how to encourage children to play and learn at the same time and how to keep them focused.
I also had the possibility to introduce a bit of English learning into the games, so kids could learn new words. It was amazing how quickly they were learning and how interested they were. From the mixed letters or drawings, children were supposed to guess a word from given category in English and then translate it into Italian. It was so much fun 🙂
On my first day I got a drawing from one of the children, what is the best positive feedback I could have received. I can’t wait to spend more time volunteering at the summer camp. 🙂
